Heart Journal #2

Hi guys.
I hope you are well and looking forward to the weekend. I am; I'll be in Cambridge at Crafting Time on Sunday teaching which is always good fun. I should be packing and prepping but instead (After finishing so DT stuff) I just HAD to finish the journal I was working on........ So here is Heart Journal #2

Yes, starting with the spine first again. Here's the front.

For this journal, I've used Decoart  Modelling paste as the base and while it was drying I "carved" a pattern and embedded corners. When everything had dried I painted the heart in red and added  Decoart 1 step crackle. The background had been painted with Americana Acrylics, Warm White, Umber and such and a gazillion different washes of both Americana and Traditions until I got the look I was after. I used Fawn and Warm White washes to highlight the heart crackle and dull the shine. I'm really pleased with the end result though so it was worth the time!
The back is similar but more random texture than pattern. The edging is natural tree bark which I thing really sits well with the feel of the book
Bit of detail. I used the same leaves but a different flower and varied the placement slightly to the previous journal. My Idea originally was to create a sort of His and Hers set of journals and I think they work well like that in that they are similar but this one has lighter colours, the texture is softer than the heavy crackle of the previous one and even though both  hearts were done exactly the same, the difference in the final washes for the crackle makes a difference. Here they are both together so you can see.
These were really fun to make though and though there were moments of panic and the occasional words spoken which shouldn't have been....the end result was worth it in my mind.

So, there you are. Hope you all have time to create this weekend and that it's a good one for you. Thanks for your encouragement and comments; they keep me focused!
